Tips and Resources

29/5/2017

We often have requests from operators for advice on developing documents in preparation for audit. Unfortunately as auditors we have a strict set of guidelines which means we  cannot consult. We need to remain impartial. However here are some really useful tips and tricks available from various sites
 1. Activity Safety Guidelines
2. The New Legislation
3. The Health and Safety at Work Act
4. Overlapping Duties
5. Guidance for Operators

6. The 2017 Safety Audit Standard

7. Notifiable Events
8. Managing Drugs and Alcohol
9. Forms and Templates

2017 Recertification

12/5/2017
Recertification is approaching fast for most operators in 2017. The regulations require that all operators go through a full audit at recertification. This occurs every 3 years.
Here are a few tips to help streamline the process, keep costs down and make sure the process goes as smoothly as possible:-

  • Plan ahead! Read through your old audit reports and documents and make sure you have updated documents and made any changes required.

  • We will require you to fill in a new profile form and sign a new contract. Please contact us at least 6-8 weeks prior to your recertification date to get the ball rolling. We can audit you up to 3 months early so if you would prefer to get the ball rolling earlier... we are ready.

  • There have been changes to the Health and Safety at Work (Adventure Activities) Regulations 2016 and the New safety audit standard. Your SMS will need to reflect these changes, and you will also need to demonstrate that you have implemented these changes.

  •  If you have made changes to your operation, staff, management, locations you operate or scope of activities you offer you will need to inform us as soon as possible so we can plan your audit accordingly.

  • The Safety Audit Standard requires that you engage advice from technical advisors (internal or external). Staff training needs to be up to date, first aid certificates valid and evidence of emergency scenario training will need to be provided.

  • Don’t Panic!! As long as you follow the new standard, seek advice and plan well ahead to complete the above steps, recertification will be a straightforward process.

  • If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to give Jamie a call on 0220912347 or [email protected]
